Following a request from The Headway unit in Newick, Uckfield & District Lions club and Uckfield Men’s shed agreed a plan to provide two picnic style benches with wheelchair access.
Headway provides reablement and support for individuals with acquired brain injuries and their families Unfortunately some of these injuries are so severe that patients are in wheelchairs.
The grounds at Headway in Newick have fantastic views over the Sussex countryside, and while there are picnic benches available in the grounds they are not adapted for wheelchairs. Uckfield lions have agreed a donation of £500 for the cost of the timber and Uckfield Men’s shed have been able to make two specially adapted benches seating 8 people and two wheelchairs.
Chris Sherwood from Uckfield Men’s shed, said they had managed to make two larger benches for the price of one smaller bench factory built.
