Uckfield Lions supported eight schools in the ROAR Competition and, as a spin-off from the main event; they held a competition between their local schools, at the Uckfield Belmont Centre. The winning ROAR Team from each school, supported by teachers and parents, brought their ideas, their models and their enthusiasm and presented them to a panel of Judges. Teams came from the primary schools at All Saint’s and St Richards, Dane hill, Harland’s, Little Horsted, Nutley and Rocks Park while Bonners, Mares field couldn’t come.
The independent judging team was headed by the local Mayor, Councillor Jackie Love, together with District Governor Ian and Lion Susie. And in an extremely tight competition, Rocks Park School won by a single point and Book Voucher prizes were awarded. After the presentations were judged the schools played a game involving paper, Sellotape and scissors and a tape measure!
Congratulating the schools the Mayor said ‘Wow what an event. That was humbling, incredible and it’s all just blown me away with the children’s designs, enthusiasm and dedication to their projects.’ The children said ‘We had FUN doing this’.
Local press were invited and letters of congratulation to the schools and Lions were received from The High Sheriff of East Sussex and Prince William. It proved to be a most rewarding morning for all in
