They shall

On a very mild Sunday afternoon it was my privilege as Uckfield and District Lions club president, to be asked to lay the Lion’s wreath at the Holy Cross memorial to remember the fallen on Remembrance Sunday.

The afternoon started with a parade from Luxford field car park to Holy cross church with dignitaries including the MP for Uckfield ,East Grinstead and local villages Mims Davis ,Uckfield Mayor Karen Bedwell with deputy Mayor Spike Mayhew and Chair of Wealden district council along with representatives from East Sussex county Council. Following were local representatives from The British Legion, Lions, Rotary and many organizations throughout Uckfield .

The second half of the parade was made up with a large contingent from the ATC, Venture Scouts, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers. From the guide movement there were Rangers, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows. All these groups looked very smart and it was notable how the youth organizations are thriving in Uckfield; a credit to the leaders and volunteers who run the various groups.

Once everyone was in a packed Holy Cross Church Father John gave a very thought full address, of which the main theme was HOPE for the difficult future. Wreathes were then laid outside on the Church’s war memorial. Once again Mr Ray Martin did an excellent job playing the last post on his trumpet.
