Sunday 7th. June saw the Uckfield & District Lions’ annual ‘Family Fun Day’ held on Luxford field. After days of storm & tempest, Sunday dawned just grey & occasionally blustery.  The weather however, did not blunt the enthusiasm & enjoyment of visitors.

There were the usual ‘games of chance’ such as tombola & ‘guess the name of the dog’. These were run by the lions, as was a raffle with generous prizes; thanks to all the local businesses who donated them. In addition, there were a wide variety of stalls representing other local charities & private crafts-people.

Events in the ring started with our annual dog show, which was judged by the mayor. Next came a lively ‘Punch & Judy’ show, which had both children & parents screaming with laughter. Next up was a highly disciplined ‘Line Dancing Group’, who encouraged spectators to join in. Amongst these was next year’s Lion president! The finale was a Magic show, which kept the children enthralled!

Fairground rides were provided by’ the tea-cup ride’, a giant slide & ‘Noah’s Ark bouncy castle’ amongst others. A fire engine & ice-cream van provided extra excitement. Apart from ice -creams, catering was provided by the lions – a home-made cakes stall & a barbecue.

Altogether, it was a successful day despite the dull weather, & made a substantial sum to be distributed to local charities.
