Bridge Cottage kindly hosted the Lions Bookshop Coffee morning on Monday 27th January. Around 24 volunteers attended with refreshments provided by Graham & Anita. The main object of the meeting was for volunteers to meet & socialise with each other.

David Goodey who organised the meeting, welcomed everyone & thanked them for coming.
Matters such as the history of the bookshop, Health & Safety & working procedures in the bookshop were discussed. Graham Russell stated that Bridge Cottage was where the bookshop was born. His idea of starting a bookshop in 2011 was considered with some concern as the cheapest High Street rents were about £11,000. He then discussed the idea of a profit sharing idea with Bridge Cottage who were in the process of applying for a lottery grant & fund raising. This was proposed & approved by the Club & the shop commence trading from the very small former jewellery shop on the right hand end & from tables outside. Initially we were told that we were only likely to be at Bridge cottage for 6-12month as the lottery grant was progressing. We were there just over 3 years. This enabled Uckfield Lions to establish the bookshop & take on the present lease in Olives Yard.
Graham Baldwin then went onto Health & Safety emphasising certain matters including the reporting of accidents & what to do in case of a fire.
John outlined the system with Word Of Books & dealing with cash in the shop.
Graham Russell detailed selling on Ebay, noting a few notable successes. Matters relating to working in the bookshop led to a lively discussion with constructive ideas put forward
The meeting concluded with a raffle where around 15 prizes were won & David Goodey thanked everyone for coming & there continued support.
