Uckfield and District Lions members continue to support their local community, and two members have been recognized for their service.
Lion Keith Mates was nominated by Lewes M.P. Maria Cauldfield as a Community Safety Champion and invited to a reception at 10 Downing Street. Keith meet Maria at The palace of Westminster before going onto Downing street, to be presented with his award
He was nominated for his work as Deanland Wood Park Residents Association Chairman, being a Community Speed-watch Co-ordinator and a Sussex Police Volunteer.
At the reception there were about 200 other Champions from all over the country. They were addressed and thanked by Tom Tugendhat MP minister for security.
Keith said it was an unexpected honour and the first time he had been in number 10. It was a wonderful experience. He was photographed outside no 10 with Maria Cauldfield.
Lion Lynne Ireland, Received the Service to our Community award at the Ashdown Radio Community awards 2023 ceremony held at the East Sussex National. The award sponsored by Uckfield Volunteer Centre was presented by Judith Austin manager of UVC.
Lynn’s many service roles include Uckfield Bonfire @ Carnival Soc, Proms on the Pitch. Treasurer, Coronation /Midsummer Festival committee, Rocks park school FSA, Holy Cross parish secretary .
Lynne is also Uckfield Lions Secretary {zone secretary @ District Convention committee vice chair.
